SUMMER IS THE SEASON FOR FAMILY REUNIONS.(LIFE-FAMILY)

Alice Player could not remember ever going to an organized family reunion on her father's side of the family.

So she started asking relatives if they'd like to have one, spreading the word in every way possible. ``Letters, word of mouth, Internet. It just grew,'' she says. ``It was like a snowball rolling down a hill.''

The result: a gathering over Memorial Day weekend in 1999 that drew more than 300 members of her father's family, the Coney clan, to its hometown of Magnolia, Miss. Family reunions are hallmarks of summer for many. They range from huge events to Sunday-afternoon gatherings of 30 or fewer.

Large or small, it takes planning, cooperation, organization and persistence to pull off a reunion or establish a new reunion tradition.
