HUMBERSIDE Police are hoping to recruit more special constables and civilian volunteers to work alongside officers in the East Riding, including Beverley and Driffield.
At present there are 116 special constables working in C division, which covers the East Riding, with 343 in the county as a whole.
The force is hoping to swell the ranks of the 'specials' who have the same powers and wear the same uniforms as regular police officers.
Unlike many other parts of the UK, where their service is completely unpaid, Humberside's special constables receive a bounty of [pounds sterling]1,500 a year if they work for at least 16 hours a month.
